1. Preparation

Before you start transferring your system, you must ensure that your Home Control Unit is ready for use:

  • Open the Homematic IP app and set up the Home Control Unit completely.
  • The Home Control Unit must be connected to your network and ready for operation.

Once these requirements have been met, you can start the transmission.

Note: If the Home Control Unit has already been reset once, the USB stick of the Home Control Unit must be initialized via the HCUweb before the system transfer. Otherwise, the USB memory will not be available for transferring the measurement data during the move.

2. Start the system transfer

Now the actual transfer process begins. You start this in the device settings of the Home Control Unit. Please note the following points:

  • Create installation report: Save the current settings by generating an installation report.
  • Check device availability: Some devices may not be directly accessible after the transfer. If necessary, restart them.
  • Reconfigure users & additional services: User accounts, smartwatches and additional services must be reconfigured.
  • Recouple Hue devices: If you use Philips Hue, you will need to integrate them into the app again using the Plugin.
  • Admin rights required: The smartphone you use to start the transfer requires admin rights. Have your admin PIN ready.

3. Select and prepare the devices

Now select the installation to be transferred to the Home Control Unit:

  • Define Access Point installation: If you have several installations, decide which ones should be transferred to the Home Control Unit.
  • Select primary Access Point: If you are using an extended system with several Access Points, specify which one is to be used as the main device.
  • The Admin PIN is required to start the transfer.

After you have completed these steps, the connection between your Access Point and the Home Control Unit will be established. The transmission data is validated.

4. Performing the data transfer

Now the actual data transfer begins:

  • Switch off the Access Point: Disconnect the Access Point from the power supply (pull out the plug) so that the transfer can proceed smoothly.
  • The transfer can take up to six minutes. During this time, the Home Control Unit lights up orange.
  • Once the data has been successfully transferred, you will receive a confirmation in the app.

5. Post-processing and completion

After the successful transfer, you should check and adjust some settings:

  • Transferring measurement data: You can transfer measurement data from the last 12 months. Please note: This option can no longer be activated afterwards!
  • To avoid wireless conflicts, reset the old Access Point to delete the cloud installation.
  • Reconfigure user accounts, access permissions and additional services to get the most out of your system.

6. Done! The system has been transferred

Congratulations! Your Homematic IP system now runs entirely via the Home Control Unit.
With this simple change, you can enjoy more convenience and flexibility in your smart home.

If you want to make adjustments later, all settings are available to you in the Homematic IP app.
