A real problem-solver for smart retrofitting: the Homematic IP Universal Dimmer Insert

Anyone looking to retrofit an existing building with a smart lighting control system often faces a problem: Especially in older homes, the necessary neutral conductor is missing in the switch box. In such cases, wiring is either impossible or only possible with special workarounds.

The German smart home manufacturer eQ-3 offers a solution in the form of the Universal Dimmer Insert. This flush-mounted device can also be connected to a two-wire installation if required and enables the intelligent dimming and switching of lighting.

The universal dimmer supports both leading-edge and trailing-edge control. Upon start, it automatically detects the correct dimming mode and the connected lighting load. The maximum dimming load is 200 VA. Thanks to a secondary input, users can connect additional conventional push-buttons or switches to the dimmer insert. There are two different controls to choose from: a rocker switch and a push-button with integrated motion sensor. eQ-3 offers both control elements in white and anthracite.

Lights that are integrated into a Homematic IP installation using the Universal Dimmer Insert can be easily controlled using the free Homematic IP app – at any time and from anywhere. Users can configure automations and group functions to activate lighting scenes on a timer or at the touch of a button. Furthermore, the lighting can be linked to other components from the Homematic IP range, which comprises more than 150 products.

With the Homematic IP Universal Dimmer Insert and the matching control elements, eQ-3 offers a genuine solution for smart retrofitting. The new products are available from now on.
