Since its launch in 2018, the CCU3 has been an integral part of the Homematic IP portfolio. Enthusiasts, professional installers and system integrators value the smart home control unit for its cloud-independent system logic and almost limitless configuration options.

With the successful launch of the Homematic IP Home Control Unit in September 2024, an even more flexible, modern alternative to the CCU3 is now available. Features such as intuitive app control, energy monitoring, an EEBUS interface and the optional offline mode offer users unprecedented smart home convenience. Thanks to the Connect API and support for self-developed plug-ins, the Home Control Unit can also be used to implement individual solutions for any application. Users of a Homematic IP Access Point or a CCU3 can switch to the Home Control Unit thanks to plugin support and a automatic system transfer particularly easy.

This marks the beginning of the next chapter in the CCU3's history: eQ-3 will gradually hand over the further development of the smart home control unit to the Homematic IP Community. Until the end of 2026, new Homematic IP products will continue to be integrated. At the same time, however, development will be handed over to the Homematic IP community. From 2027, eQ-3 will enable users to make their own customisations to their CCU3, for example to integrate new smart home components. Exact details on the so-called OpenCCU will be announced in the coming months. The changed role of the CCU3 is also reflected in a change to the sales channels. After a transition phase, the smart home control unit will be available exclusively at the online retailer ELV.

"From the very beginning, our great Homematic and Homematic IP customers have used the CCU3 as a starting point to create a smart home entirely according to their wishes with expertise and ingenuity. And this is exactly how we want it to continue in the future. I look forward to seeing what great things our users will do with the OpenCCU. As a specialised online store for electronics enthusiasts, ELV is the ideal sales partner for the further development of the CCU3."

Ralph Bertelt, CEO of eQ-3 AG

With the introduction of the OpenCCU, eQ-3 is consistently relying on the innovative power of the Homematic IP community, while the new Home Control Unit is available as a future-oriented platform for all customers. Users benefit in the long term from maximum flexibility and individual design freedom - in line with the Homematic IP philosophy.
