Anyone who operates a photovoltaic system, a heat pump or a wallbox these days must familiarise themselves with the applicable legal requirements. One of these requirements can be that controllable consumption devices and generation systems must be capable of being temporarily throttled by the grid operator — for example, in the event of an impending overload of the power grid. Without smart control, consumers would have to compete for the available electricity in such a situation.

It’s different with a Homematic IP Home Control Unit: The smart home hub connects EEBUS-compatible devices and intelligently distributes the available power among the consumers. Users decide for themselves which devices should be given priority. They can easily set these priorities in the free Homematic IP app.

This allows users to comply with legal requirements while retaining full control over energy flows in their home.

Easy networking via EEBUS

EEBUS, a common communication standard for modern energy devices, is used for communication between the Home Control Unit and consumption devices or generation systems. The EEBUS pilot certification of the Home Control Unit by Living Lab Cologne ensures maximum compatibility with various systems. EEBUS-enabled components can be connected to the smart home hub in just a few steps via a plug-in. In this case, the complex wiring required via an additional relay is completely eliminated.

With the addition of LPC (Limitation of Power Consumption) and LPP (Limitation of Power Production), the Homematic IP Home Control Unit takes another step toward becoming a comprehensive home energy management hub. The new feature is free of charge until December 31, 2027 and will become part of a paid Home Energy Management System (HEMS) in the future. There will be no automatic transition to the paid HEMS.
