At the end of May 2025, eQ-3 will enable access to the Connect API, the open interface of the Home Control Unit, with a new firmware version for the Homematic IP Home Control Unit and an update for the Homematic IP app. From this point of time, it will be possible to use self-programmed plugins to integrate third-party solutions into a Homematic IP installation, for example. Once again, eQ-3 is setting standards in terms of openness and connectivity

Extensive documentation already explains how to use the interface. Developers and system integrators can therefore already familiarise themselves with the new possibilities. The most important questions are answered on a landing page.

The use of self-programmed plugins and the Connect API is initially aimed exclusively for professional users. To use them, the Home Control Unit must be set to developer mode (DevMode).

Important to know: The developer mode extends the application possibilities of the Home Control Unit, but it also brings with it certain risks. Therefore, eQ-3 cannot provide technical support for devices with activated developer mode. Mandatory liability in accordance with statutory regulations remains unaffected. Once developer mode has been fully activated, it can only be exited by resetting the Home Control Unit to factory settings or importing a backup. Users should therefore make a backup beforehand!

In the future, eQ-3 plans to release officially certified plugins that have been tested for functionality and security and do not require an activated developer mode to be used. Consequently, the technical support will remain in place for such plugins. The company will an-nounce further details at a later point of time.
