Ainur and Timo’s goal was to create a fully automated home. To achieve this, they relied exclusively on the use of wireless devices. Lighting control is smart in every room. To meet different requirements, a range of Homematic IP devices were installed, including switch actuators. In the guest bathroom, utility room, upstairs and downstairs hallway, dressing room and bathroom, the actuators are intelligently linked to motion detectors and presence sensors, so that the lights automatically switch on and off again. The lighting in the garden, as well as in the garage and the equipment room, is also smartly controlled.

In addition to smoke detectors and water sensors, the safety of the house and its occupants is ensured by an intelligent alarm system comprising window and door contacts combined with motion detectors and alarm sirens. Any unusual movement is detected immediately. The alarm does not only include loud sirens inside and outside the property – Ainur and Timo also receive instant push notifications on their smartphones. Furthermore, the alarm function is smartly linked with the lighting control, so that in an emergency all the lights in the house, the garage, and the entire garden lighting are switched on immediately. Particularly clever: thanks to direct communication between the devices, the alarm is triggered even without an active Internet or cloud connection. Even if the Access Point is destroyed, the alarm siren remains active. Additionally integrated cameras switch on automatically at dusk and when the alarm system is activated. Burglars stand no chance here.

“The true strength of Homematic IP lies in the ability to create simple automation routines, which can be designed quickly and easily using very comprehensive if-then rules in the app.”

Ainur and Timo use the heating schedules in the Homematic IP App for automated room temperature control. Different schedules for heating and cooling ensure consistently comfortable temperatures in all rooms of the house, both in summer and winter. For rooms where active cooling and heating is not used, such as the equipment room, garden shed, and loft space, temperature and humidity sensors are employed to provide ventilation or heating recommendations. In the garage, this function is implemented in conjunction with a Hörmann drive: the door opens for ventilation when humidity reaches a certain level. As soon as it gets dark, starts to rain, or the alarm mode is activated, the door closes automatically – now that’s smart! For the smart opening, locking, and unlocking of the two doors to the garage and garden shed, two Homematic IP Door Lock Drives have been installed, which can also be controlled via the appropriate key fob or smartphone. The front door is smartly controlled using a Homematic IP Switch Circuit Board.

“Requirements change. With wireless actuators, you have maximum flexibility. Thanks to the affordable prices of individual devices, you can easily and securely retrofit at a later stage.”

Of course, the shutter control in this house is also smart. Thanks to the installed shutter actuators, the shutters lower automatically when a brightness level defined by the occupants is reached. Depending on the measured temperature, an automation routine lowers the shutters in two stages if it is too warm outside or if the sun is shining strongly. If the windows are opened at night, the shutters in front of the windows with fly screens raise to 88% to allow better ventilation. Since the actuators are also intelligently linked with the weather sensor – plus, all shutters on the ground floor automatically lower during storms and strong winds.
