Project description

The turning point: an intelligent heating system with Homematic IP and infrared heaters from SHYN

An innovative heating concept was developed in collaboration with SHYN. Initial tests with a small number of residential units quickly demonstrated that guests felt noticeably more comfortable, and the staff benefited from the new, straightforward control system. Following a successful pilot, the decision was made to fully retrofit all holiday homes.

How it works today:

  • Customised heating schedules: Each holiday apartment has its own weekly schedule, tailored to guests’ arrival and departure days.
  • Window open? Heating off. Window contacts detect open windows and automatically lower the temperature – all without any manual intervention.
  • Heat at the touch of a button: Staff can conveniently control all heating systems via tablet or PC – centrally from the reception or flexibly through the app.
  • Reliable continuous operation: The technology operates with low maintenance and stability – without any disruptions since commissioning.

Expansion to new buildings

The success in the holiday homes led to the next phase of development: the administration, fitness and wellness areas, as well as staff apartments, were also equipped with the smart heating concept. Thanks to early planning, all wiring could be centrally consolidated, allowing for further optimisation of the installation.

Special challenge: power meets system integration

During the expansion, it became clear that standard solutions were not always sufficient. The actuators that had been originally planned were unable to handle the heating loads. However, by using more powerful switch actuators in combination with Homematic IP modules, seamless integration was achieved – including power monitoring and full system logic.

Today, operators, staff, and guests alike benefit – a successful example of how modern smart home technology can revolutionise commercial applications.
