Comparing these results with those of the US market indicates that eQ-3 would also take a leading position there. eQ-3 would be in second place in the USA behind the alarm system specialist ADT. Also significant in terms of market importance are eQ-3's OEM solutions, including products for Deutsche Telekom, Qivicon, RWE/innogy and Bosch. When these are included, eQ-3 smart home systems are being used in more than 1.8 million households in Europe, according to Berg Insight. A similar picture emerges with smart individual room control. In almost 2.5 million households, i. e. over 15 million radiator thermostats, eQ-3 has also achieved exceptional results here. The steady growth in turnover of Homematic IP in the electrical trade sector has played a major role in eQ-3's market development. Homematic IP enables craft trades to become involved in the smart home boom. For trade businesses, Homematic IP is particularly attractive as a system solution: combining products from different manufacturers is not a practical option, not least because of the liability issues in the event of things going wrong. In the high-end sector, typically 2% to 3% of net building costs, i.e. €30,000 to €80,000, often considerably more, are invested in home control.

Homematic IP, however, enables much less expensive projects with new smart new buildings possible for as little as €3,000 to €10,000, i.e. 1% to 2% of total building costs. This makes smart homes a realistic and already implemented standard in the majority of new buildings. This corresponds with a 2020 survey by Bitkom. Accordingly, 63% of all respondents stated “that smart home applications will be found in every household within a few years”. The growth of Homematic IP in the trade sector also continued in 2021: turnover more than doubled in the first quarter of 2021 compared to 2020.

Statistics from the renowned market research company Berg Insight have now shown for six straight years that eQ-3 with Homematic IP is asserting itself as the market leader for smart home systems in Europe ”, says Bernd Grohmann, Managing Director of eQ-3. “The key to this has been, and continues to be, that Homematic IP has convinced both end users and the trade sector about the convenience, range, security and price of our products”.
